I had to squeeze in one last post. Irene is actually typing for me as I am too weak to do so myself. It is my occupational disease. I mean radium. It is my greatest discovery and now my downfall. I installed every precaution I could, but only for others. I didn’t bother with them myself, and neither does Irene. I am dying. I guess that I will be able to go and be with Pierre now. Thank you all for being so faithful. Best, Marie
A Quick Recap
So much has happened since my last blog post. I don’t know if I will be able to condense it into this one post. Here I go. Eve and Irene are growing up to be amazing young women…Eve not so sciencey as Irene though. Irene and I created a mobile X-Ray machine for WWI. It allowed soldiers wounded in the field to be X-Rayed and then have them treated much easier in a fast way. Irene is my little genius. But recently Pierre’s father has died, and he was the one who took care of Irene when Pierre and I had to work. So that hit her the hardest. She is strong though and has pulled through it. My life has been such a struggle, but I have made it. From all of the hardships of my childhood, to meeting Pierre and having children. And not to mention winning a second Nobel Prize, I have had some amazing ups as well. The world seems to come together and unite under my discoveries (even if misused) this is such a blessing. Thank you everyone, for your faithful support to my Blog and for giving me a place to dump my thoughts. Also I will be releasing my letters to Pierre that I began shortly after his death to you all in the near future. This concludes my blog entries, I have too much going on for me to continue. Thank you all once again!

The Horse Carriage
He was only 49. My Pierre. I don’t know what to say. I am alone in the world. His skull was crushed…I can’t continue on. And I don’t just mean with these. I don’t know what I will do with myself. I have two daughters to take care of, but my work is of utmost importance. I fear I may have to conclude these posts until brighter times. I can’t think now. I can’t spell. I can not concentrat at al. Goodbye for now. I love you Pierre, and I will see you soon.
Another One
Eve was born. Now I have two munchkins to take care of, while still doing my research. Eve is a cute one. I don’t know what she will be like, but I hope she will have mine and Irène’s determination to science.
The Prize…
Pierre is being nominated for a Nobel Prize along with Henri Becquerel for their discoveries and research of polonium and radium, yet I am not being mentioned. I personally think that I have done more than either of the two men towards the research, but I am fine with splitting the prize with them. Pierre is telling our nominators that he will only accept the prize if I am included. I love him so much!!! I am not so much wanting to win, but wanting the 70,000 francs that will come along with it. Now that would be beneficial to my research.
Discoveries of Science
We rarely eat dinner for our love of science. We just work and work and work and it is exhausting and we still do it and love it. I have created an electrometer. Using Pierre’s quadrant electrometer, I have set up my own to measure miniature currents of energy. I am also glass blowing my own tubes so that they don’t break under pressure and they seem to work and are really effective. With the electrometer I am even testing elements to see if they produce rays and I have found that Uranium and Thorium are the strongest, so I am using Uranium as my standard amount of rays. I also tested a substance called Pitchblende, and once the Uranium was removed, it was four times stronger than pure Uranium. Science is so intriguing!!!
Irène
Her name is Irène, Irène Curie. She is my first child and she is perfect!!!
Pierre
On that first night I knew. Pierre was the man for me. Not Casimir Zarowski or anyone else, but Pierre Curie. We share the same views in science and social subjects of which are both highly interesting to me (more-so the science though). I had told myself never to let love guide me, but now I could have both love and my career together with Pierre. He has nothing to offer me and I nothing to him. I wish he had something to give me that would help with my science. Also, Pierre has already perfected his and his brother’s quadrant electrometer, a new type of electrometer revered by “Lord Kelvin” and many others including me! He even discovered the amount of charge created by piezoelectric quartz and other scientific accomplishments. I adore him and guess what? We are getting married soon! His family loves mine and mine loves his! It is perfect, in fact I love him more for his scientificness than his being, but I love him with all my heart. I am imagining all the scientific discoveries we could make together. It is miraculous, we shall see in the near future. Bye all!!!
The Sorbonne
It is free!, they have some of the best professors in the world, and I can take classes and exams any time I want. It is perfect for me. Bronya and her new husband Casimir (Ironic, right?) Dluski live with me and work as doctors together in the working district. Their behaviors detract from my studies as they have Polish people over all the time while I am learning French and other annoyances. Bronya wants me to eat regularly, but I must study! I fear I may even have to stop my blogging. But the Sorbonne is amazing and I am learning a lot about science and math. I will move to the Latin quarter soon and live in gerrets around there, near the Sorbonne, that willhopefully quell the noise and annoyance of living with my sister and Casimir…Thanks and see you all later!
